Mr. Murray is a Senior-Level Mechanical Designer with more than 37 years of professional experience. His areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: interior and exterior plumbing; high, medium, and low pressure steam systems; heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC); air- and water-cooled chilled water systems; direct digital control systems; and energy analysis. He has designed and provided construction oversight for new and retrofit systems for medical, industrial, military, and educational facilities. He has been the Project Manager and Lead Mechanical Designer on numerous projects that AKEA has completed for NAVFAC Southeast, the U.S. Air Force, GSA, and various VA facilities.

  • Building Sciences/IAQ Remediation: design document review, building envelope construction, site/building inspections
  • Project Management (Construction Phase): compile subcontractor teams, kickoff and coordination meetings, coordination between trades, contract negotiations and compliance, safety, job start, budgeting and closeout, purchasing, personnel task assignments
  • Project Management (Design Phase): compile multi-discipline design teams, kickoff and coordination meetings, coordination between disciplines, contract compliance, job start and closeout, design/drafting, task assignments
  • Mechanical Design and Layout: coordination with multiple disciplines relating to retrofit and new construction of HVAC systems and central plant design, extensive knowledge of building codes, construction guidelines and standards (VA Design Guides, NAVFAC Design Standards, ASHRAE, SMACNA, SREF, AHCA, SBCCI, Structural Steel and Pipe), demonstrated CADD and manual drafting experience and skill (all disciplines)
  • Civil Site and Roadway Design: develop sites, roadways, bridges, parks, and produce permit and construction-level documents
  • Estimation and Takeoffs: plan and specification reading and interpretation, labor and material costing, project cost monitoring, vendor scope compliance
  • Computer Software: AutoCAD, Revit, LandDesktop, Trane CDS Trace Ultra and 700, Carrier E20-II, Elite CHVAC
