December 11, 2011 - New Parking Garage Opens at Gainesville VA Medical Center
A.J. Kwan, president of AKEA, and Sean Holway, project manager (fourth and third from right, respectively), attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly completed parking garage at Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. AKEA was the design contractor on the project, with Seawolf Construction the building contractor. As part of two additional contracts with the VA, AKEA recently completed design on a second parking garage, and has begun design on a third. On completion of the three contracts, a total of 2,115 parking spaces will be available in an area greater than 744,000 square feet.

November 4, 2008 - AKEA, Inc. Awarded Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) Architecture-Engineering Contract
The Gainesville Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) has awarded AKEA, Inc. (AKEA), a small, service-disabled, veteran-owned A-E firm, a $489,195 contract to design a 500-space parking garage. Work under this contract includes a study to determine the optimal location for the new structure on the VAMC’s crowded Archer Road campus. Another aspect of the project is the possible relocation of the existing helipad. The design is forecast to be completed in the spring of 2009. AKEA has partnered with Walker Parking Consultants on this contract. This is the fifth consecutive contract awarded to AKEA by the Gainesville VAMC.
